Destination: Memphis, Tennessee The largest city in the state of Tennessee, Memphis is located on the Mississippi River. It’s history is entrenched in the slave market due to its being located on the Mississippi and also its involvement in the Civil Rights Movement, being the city where Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed. You can visit the Lorraine Motel, where he was shot, which houses the National Civil Rights Museum. Memphis has a very large African American music scene and was home to the first African American radio station. Many great Jazz, Blues and R&B artists are from Memphis.
